I am very pleased with this product. It was highly recommened to me, and I am very glad that I took that advice. The snowshoes work very well and are of high quality. They have great traction and the bindings work very well. I would recommend to purchase the extensions if total weight is 200+ lbs. in powdery snow. Overall, I have no complaints with this product.
A Very Well Thought Out Design

I was initially intrigued by MSR snowshoes over other brands because of the fact that they look very functional without looking too complicated. I also like that they are made in the US. I think the modular idea is a good one as well. There are times when you only really need a snowshoe for traction, like on packed snow and ice, and there are times when you need them for flotation, like when there’s deep, fresh snow. It’s nice that you can benefit from improved mobility on a smaller shoe when you don’t need the extra length, but when you do need more length, you can just attach the extension tails. This is a very well thought out design. I went with the Ascent because it comes with a heel lift elevator, which certainly makes a difference both with improved traction on steeper climbs and reduced fatigue on your calf muscles. The MSR Ascent snowshoes are an excellent choice.

The MSR Ascent snowshoes are great. The traction is like no other. The teeth run the entire length of the shoe, and while friends were slipping and sliding on bulletproof snow, I was sticking. The binding system is awesome, easy to adjust with gloves on. So much better than the more complicated binding systems out there that require three hands. The adjustable length is innovative and adds versatility. Get more length when you need more float in the powder, get shorter length when you don’t. Flip the heel lift for even better climbing and use less energy. Awesome. |
