Best Snow Shoes I Have Ever Had
this MSR Evo Ascent snowshoes review by Daniel G.
A fantastic set of snow shoes. We bought 2 pairs so we could go snow shoeing together. A great sport and lots of fun. Much better than my old pair of snow shoes. I would recommend these to anyone.
Mountaineering Grade Shoes, Day Hiker Friendly
this MSR Evo Ascent snowshoes review by Jim in Vermont
I needed new snowshoes after the bindings failed on my 10 year old Atlas shoes. I chose the MSR Evo Ascent snowshoes with the 6" flotation tails. So far this winter we have had deep powder snow here in Vermont, so I have used the shoes mostly with the tails (185 lb. male). I use the snowshoes mainly on Saturday afternoon mini-expeditions with my Siberian Husky (she likes to lead no matter how deep the snow is). Initially, I thought I had gone too technical with these shoes. The bindings appeared complicated and the crampons/rails really sharp and aggressive. Once out on the trail, however, I have found these shoes to be versatile and easy to use. The bindings make putting these snowshoes on simple and quick (watch the ORS Snowshoes Direct / Onion River Sports YouTube Video for a quick demonstration). Very secure and comfortable bindings. Unlike my former Atlas snowshoes which were notorious for constantly throwing snow from the tails all the way up to my thighs, these shoes stay flat and level with the snow surface and I find myself staying much dryer. Great traction overall. The shoe allows you to walk with a very natural gait which really reduces fatigue. The unibody sheds snow easily and does not seem to ice-up when crossing wet spots. The only downside I see so far after using them for about 25 miles of winter hiking is the abrasion of the unibody from the sharp crampons and rails caused by getting crossed-up. If you bushwhack, this is unavoidable. I may be partly responsible for this since I did not pay attention to putting the shoes on the right foot initially (shoes are clearly marked left and right on the binding instep). Now that I am wearing them on the right foot (feet), time will tell if the abrasions advance beyond just being cosmetic. Very pleased so far.
Easy On-Easy Off & Perfect Fit Snowshoes!
this MSR Evo Ascent snowshoes review by SNOWSHOEMAN
I had a great "first trip out" with my new MSR EVO Ascent Snowshoes! No deep snow so I did not use the tails I purchased to go on my snowshoes, but we did have hard packed icy conditions. The traction provided on these snowshoes made the steep climbs and descents a breeze. The easy on/off bindings were just that....easy to deal with in cold weather and well, the color is just icing on the cake. My companions were jealous. I'm looking forward to using them again and again.
 Great Trail Breakers
this MSR Evo Ascent review by David
The MSR Evo Ascents can take on just about anything. I have been in powder as deep as 18" with them. They are great for trail breaking. The heel elevators are life savers on steep terrain. The full length traction along the rails doesn't let me slip especially when traversing steep terrain. If you are going to break trail in any powder over 10", get the float tails. You won't regret it. Overall, these are fantastic shoes. All my snowshoeing friends are jealous!
 Exceptional On All Fronts
this MSR Evo Ascent review by CO-Mtn-Man
I am convinced that MSR cannot make an inferior product and the Evo Ascent is further proof of this. Without fancy, gimmicky bells and whistles, these do the job exceptionally well on all fronts: traction, binding system, and floatation. Plus they are bomb proof and they are made in the US. Why would you choose anything else? I keep the tails in my pack and bust them out when the snow gets real deep and soft. I flip up the climbing bar when the slope starts to kick up. They have every feature you’d ever want, but are very clean and simple. Very little can go wrong with them and so far nothing has with mine.
 Reliable & Functional Every Time
this MSR Evo Ascent review by B.H.D.
I have a pair of the MSR Evo Ascent snow shoes and they have been reliable and functional every time I’ve used them. I’m a pretty heavy guy, so I also bought a pair of the extension tails and I’ve just left them on. I don’t have any problems walking in them when they are attached, so I don’t see the need to take them off and most likely lose them. These things have amazing grip on the hills and traverses. My snowboard boots fit into the bindings no problem. Other snowshoes I’ve tried have bindings that I always max out and have to re-adjust, not so with the Evo Ascent. With these I finally have the confidence to go out and have a good time without worrying about catastrophic failure! |
