Well Built, Thought Out, and A Must Have for Extreme Climbing
this men's and women's Tubbs Mountaineer snowshoes review by John R.
Purchased 2 pairs of Tubbs through ORS, mens and womens Tubbs Mountaineer snow shoes..great price, great service, fast shipping. I just got back today from a 3 day adventure in the Seward Range in the Adirondacks of NY. We spent about twelve miles in/on our Tubbs, little snow in the valley, 4 ft on top! We beat our Tubbs up, through mud, ice, and rock to all ice and snow...the heal lift, once you have used it, is not something you will ever want to live without. We bushwack and do extreme climbs.. if you want confidence under foot, these are the snow shoes for you. Our only complaint is that they grab so well..they hinder the but sliding back down the mountain. :) happy trails people!!
 Comfortable, Great Bindings, Excellent
this Tubbs Mountaineer snowshoes review by Chad
Although I don't have extensive snowshoe experience, the Tubbs 30 snow shoes are head and shoulders above my old pair. The bindings are easy to get on and off and are very comfortable. They feel very light and float in a wide variety of snow conditions. The crampons dig very hard on ice and hard snow pack, giving a very secure feeling. Definitely money well spent for me.

ORS is Great to Work With
this Tubbs Mountaineer women's snowshoes review by megacab52
I decided on the MSR Lightning Ascents (and the Tubbs Mountaineer women snowshoes for my wife) and went looking for a retailer to purchase them from. orssnowshoesdirect.com was who I decided on. Their price was competitive, they had free shipping and the people I talked to on the phone knew snowshoes. So many of the online retailers I talked too did not know or use snowshoes which was not the case with ORS. I ordered them in the morning and they shipped on the same day. I found their video reviews helpful as well. If I was to do it over again I wouldn't change a thing. You will not be disappointed in buying from ORS.
 LOVE THEM
this Tubbs Mountaineer women's snowshoes review by Julie
I bought the snowshoes from ORS online and I received them in a couple of days. Used them for the first time a couple of weekends ago. That was my first time on snowshoes. I had so much fun that I bought my son a pair so that he could go also.
 Great Fun! Problem-Free! Go Anywhere!
this Tubbs Mountaineer women's snowshoes review by moresnowplease
I love these snowshoes! While others are plodding along on well-worn tracks, I can break free and explore way beyond the limits with these tough ground/snow/ice gripping sweethearts. Easy to strap on and take off, I've used them to climb up and down gullies, and though out the woods. The grip and the heel bar make it so easy to climb and descend inclines...easier to climb than in the summertime! Great for catching a glimpse of winter wildlife. Easy to use, great fun!
 Great Modern Snowshoe
this Tubbs Mountaineer snowshoes review by Bruce
I have used traditional snowshoes for over twenty years. This year I wanted to do some climbing in more mountainous terrain. These are the first pair of modern snowshoes that I have purchased. I have used other makes of modern snowshoes but these have all the features that I require. Excellent grip for ascending and descending steep slopes. Great flotation for a modern style and rugged construction. Some people do not like the free rotation binding but I am used to this with the older style snow shoes (I use lampwick for a binding on them). I actually find the free rotation an advantage and do not have any problems with backing up or going over obstacle as it is just a matter of flicking the back up which you learn with the older style shoes. I also find this binding a breeze to get in and out of compared to some other styles on the market. I definitely recommend these.
 Great Climbing Snowshoe
this Tubbs Mountaineer snowshoes review by N. Churchill
These go on and off very nicely and hold traction on the steepest of inclines. They are easy to maneuver when bush whacking.
Feel like Spider Man - or Woman
this men & women Tubbs Mountaineer snowshoes review by M. Tesulov
I bought a pair of these for my wife, and took them out for a climb up our local ski hill last week. She was unstoppable!! The bindings hold firm, and the teeth (think Jaws) locked her into the side of the hill. The flip up heel lift is a dream. I just ordered a pair for myself, so I can keep up!
 Wow, Like Walking On Clouds
this Tubbs Mountaineer snowshoes review by M. Tesulov
First time snowshoe tracker. Wow, simple amazed at how lighter than air my Tubbs felt on my feet. It was almost like walking on clouds, tracking around in the powder.
 Great Purchase

ORS Snowshoes Direct has great shipping, excellent customer service. I've enjoyed the snowshoes a great deal in Central NY. No problems.
 The Best I've Ever Owned
this Tubbs Mountaineer review by G.Mcleod
I had the old orange Tubbs Mountain series for years and years, but I was never fond of the binding. They did their job well however, but it was time to exchange them for a new pair, so I got the new version, which is now called the Mountaineer. From the get go I was impressed with how much improvement the binding had undergone. The new bindings are padded for comfort and increased warmth, and they adjust with a simple pull of a strap. Taking them off is even easier, you just pull on the middle loop and undo the heel strap. The traction has been improved and the added heel lift is a great feature. I plan on having these for a long time and I anticipate many good days in the snow.
 Given Me New Life!
this women's Tubbs Mountaineer review by Alaska Mom
My husband bought me a pair of Tubbs Mountaineer womens snowshoes for my birthday because he said it was time to nail the old wooden ones to the wall. I must say that at first I was intimidated by them. The steel teeth are quite long and sharp, and a shoe made of aluminum and plastic is a bit hard to get used to when you’ve only used shoes made of wood and rawhide. My initial reservations were wiped out the first time I went snowshoeing with them however. I still cannot believe how much better these are! I didn’t think that they would float as well but they do! And they offer so much more support and grip. Snowshoeing has taken on a new life and I’m more than happy that my husband showed me the light.
 Worth the Money
this women's Tubbs Mountaineer review by Sharon B.
The first time I went snowshoeing I rented a pair, and I had such a good time that I immediately wanted a pair of my own. But I wanted a much nicer pair than the rentals that I had used. Some of my friends have Tubbs and recommended them to me, and when I started looking, I was overwhelmed at the selection, especially for women. I was planning on getting a pair in the middle of the line, not the cheapest, not the most expensive. But as it turned out I went with the best, the Mountaineer Women’s. It came down to all the features which I couldn’t deny would only benefit me. The added traction, the better binding, the climbing bar, and how the binding can articulate from side to side for a more natural step when traversing had me sold. I don’t at all regret spending the extra money, but I know that I certainly would’ve regretted not spending the extra money.
 They Have It All
this Tubbs Mountaineer review by JKL
The Tubbs Mountaineer snowshoes are amazing. They have it all. The bindings are incredibly easy to use and best of all they are comfortable! No pressure points. You just slip your foot in and pull on the straps and they hug your foot with a nicely padded binding. The traction is remarkable. They have giant stainless steel crampons that grip in the deepest snow. They have a heel lifter, which takes a lot of the strain off your calf muscles when you are heading uphill. The only negative thing is that they are a bit heavier than other models, but they are bomb proof, so the weight is for good reason.
Good Snowshoes but could use a little improvement
this Tubbs Mountaineer review by Ryan
This is a great snowshoe for multiple reasons. Because of the sturdy frame, it doesn't break very easily. I am in the military and use these extensively for my job rucking up and down mountains in anywhere from 6" of snow to 5' of snow with a 70 pound backpack on. These provide great strength and minimal slip due to a good traction design. The only bad thing about these is that there is no "stopping" point when lifting your foot up. It's hard to explain, but when walking up steep mountains or lifting your foot up high the tip of the snowshoe constantly bangs you in the shin because there's no stopping point for the snowshoe to actually catch. It isn't painful, but annoying. Another downside to this is that turning around or going over obstacles is extremely hard because the back of your snowshoe just hangs straight down, catching on everything. I don't know why they didn't incorporate some type of stopping device to keep the snowshoe from falling completely perpendicular to your foot. Atlas does a great job with this. Overall it's a great snowshoe, but would love to see this improvement. |
